Blue Flower

7 volunteers were working today, we carried on tidying up the site by removing soil and bricks, and additional measurements were taken for recording the features and overall site plan, this will also be used for an interactive plan.

The upstream wall was cleared of weeds and debris and the cistern area and adjacent trench were dug out to reveal traces of a sloping slate base and further brickwork including a curved channel running into the main trench.  The brickwork floor in this area was uncovered.

Some of the existing finds were bagged and recorded, these included bags of bones, nails, bolts, and other metal parts. We also uncovered and recorded several finds with today’s excavations including what appears to be a rabbit skull, rib bone, piece of casting and a large screw, as well as several of pieces of sheet metal.
